Public Transportation Options

Chicago Transit Authority - CTA

The CTA's convenient and easy to use bus and elevated/subway train lines — including the famous "L" — carry you around town and to major attractions. The CTA web site offers a valuable overview of transit services, a guide to the system, instructions for first-time riders and much more.

Taxi Service

Taxi service is available throughout the city and can cost anywhere from $5 - $20. A taxi shared ride program (up to 4 passengers) is in effect at McCormick Place Convention Center from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. each day. A fare of $7 per person will apply to all shared rides during this period. Passengers will be grouped according to their destination.

Below is a listing of how taxicab fares are determined and paid in the City of Chicago:

  • The "flag pull" or initial charge is $2.25 for the first 1/9 mile
  • The additional fraction of a mile is charge is $.20 for each additional 1/9 mile
  • Every 36 seconds of time elapsed is $.20
  • The flat fee for the first additional passenger, over the age of 12 and under the age of 65, is $1.00 and $.50 for each passenger after that
  • An additional $1.00 fuel surcharge will apply to all cab fares
  • Tipping is customary for good service

If you would like to file a complaint or compliment a cab driver, please call 311. Please make sure you have the cab number when you call.
